Correspondence

Janine Sowerby from council has asked us to distribute their Linwood Village Streetscape post survey message. See below.

A message from the Christchurch City Council…

Linwood Village streetscape – what do you think?

In 2024, we made improvements to the Linwood Village streetscape.

Before we did, we found out what the community thought about the area highlighted in red below. Now that the streetscape upgrade has been completed, we’re checking in with the community again so we can compare feedback from before and after its construction.

Global Research is carrying out a survey on the Council’s behalf. Let us know what you think from Monday 17 February to Sunday 30 March by completing the survey in one of three ways:

  • In person in Linwood Village between 10am and 6pm on any of the following dates (look for the ‘Have your say’ banner):

o   Saturday 1 March on the corner of Stanmore Rd/Worcester St by the Linwood Community Arts Centre (or, if wet, Sunday 2 March on Stanmore Rd instead).

o   Wednesday 12 March on Stanmore Rd (or, if wet, Thursday 13 March instead).

  • Online, by contacting Global Research on 03 355 4562 or at info@globalresearch.nzfor the necessary password.
  • By phone, by contacting Global Research as above for assistance.

Complete the survey to win one of three $100.00 Prezzy Cards!

If you have any questions about the survey email info@globalresearch.nz

If you would like to know more about the Linwood Village streetscape upgrade, phone 941 8999 or 0800 800 169 or go to Linwood Village streetscape plan : Christchurch City Council

Liesbeth has rsvp-ed to the mayoral email regarding the Resident’s Group Forum that Murray and Craig would like to attend on the 27th of February. The reply was: “Thank you for inviting the mayor to your upcoming event”. Bit strange… Hopefully the registration was successful. See address for the Forum in the action points below.

Hayley forwarded the volunteer agreement for Petrie Park between CCC and WAR. Just one more section needs to be filled in.

There was an email from council regarding the Private Plan Change 11 of the Resource Management Act.

The council has incorporated Plan Change 11 into the District Plan, which means that residential development can occur in parts of the redzone.

It’s specifically regarding the corner of 254/256 Fitzgerald Ave and 5 Harvey Terrace.

As WAR, we would like to oppose to this, because it sets a precedent and raises concern for other parts of the redzone. Murray to write and send a letter to council.

Update from the Chair

Hayley updated us on the first working bee for Shirley pool that occurred on the 22nd of February. There was a good turnout.

All weeds have been removed and the pool is empty and clean.

Treasurer’s report

Hayley tabled the treasurer’s report and a few motions were raised.

To spend $60 on stones for Medway Park – accepted

To re-imburse Liesbeth for dumping fees ($137.96) – accepted

The invoice for the Petrie Park dog signs has already been paid.

The treasurer’s report was moved by Liesbeth and accepted by all.

Richmond Gala

The Richmond Gala will be held on Saturday the 29th of March ’25. From 10am till 2pm.

WAR will have a stall with The Shirley pool project, Avon Otakaro Network, Petrie Park and Civil Defence.

Can we please have volunteers to be at the stand throughout the day? Inform Hayley and or Liesbeth if you can help and during what time.

Ewout suggested to have the history panels up. Hayley to source them. Liesbeth to proofread before they get printed.

Redzone dogs will do another treasure hunt.

Promote the Gala far and wide! Event link: https://www.facebook.com/events/963690652453586/?acontext=%7B%22event_action_history%22%3A[%7B%22surface%22%3A%22home%22%7D%2C%7B%22mechanism%22%3A%22search_results%22%2C%22surface%22%3A%22search%22%7D]%2C%22ref_notif_type%22%3Anull%7D

Working groups

Roading

Slater street will get a complete rebuild. The street will be narrowed. This project is due to start in September.

Nicholls Street will be resurfaced.

Going forward we will need to consult as WAR, not as individuals.

There’s a slot for consultation on Thursday the 13th of March at 4pm (previously noted as 15th of March, sorry about that). Hayley to speak on WAR’s behalf.

Richmond Clean Ups

On Wednesday the 12th of February Murray, Hayley, Liesbeth and Helen did a clean up around the neighbourhood. We started at the Medway parklet and will still need to plant the planter boxes and put stones down. Liesbeth has some succulents to bring. Hayley to organise the stones.

Afterwards we went to the bus stop on North Avon Road, in front of Kainga Ora housing.

There’s a rubbish bin that was overflowing. Just snap send solve if you see it happen again.

And finally we tidied up the planting next to the tattoo shop, but unfortunately we still couldn’t attach the chain to the gutter. We need a piece of downpipe first and a taller ladder!

Arts & Parks

Lena has offered to design a dog poo bin for Petrie Park where the bags get separated out.

The murals and dog bubbles are up and people have indicated they also want their dog featured.

The walls where the seats go will be painted.

There will also be some espalier planting along the walls.

Please everyone go to our website and have your say about the tree planting plan for Petrie Park by the 10th of March.

Liesbeth would like to see a regular weed-a-thon set up for the Swanns Road parklet.

Every Friday between 9 and 10am. Hayley to supply tools and gloves.

Richmond Village

Keep an eye out on the wall at the Richmond Village, where Nick will paint his design.

Unfortunately the carpark is falling apart again and potholes are appearing once more.

Warden Street

We’ve added a new working group: Warden Street.

Nick has spoken to the school and will continue to liaise with them regarding connecting the school to Warden Street. The fence is open, so the alleyway can be used already.

Hayley to get stencils from Sport Canterbury.

Ross to source 5 different colours of spray paint and check out how to fix the concrete cracks.

Constitution

Murray and Liesbeth still to sit down and go over the 2 versions of the constitution.

Ross suggested getting paid help from a lawyer.

General business

Murray has signed for WAR a community open letter to the mayor, deputy mayor and Te Marie Tau regarding the loss of a community appointment to the redzone co-governance committee.

While we were at the meeting, the letter was picked up by The Press.

Georgie Archibald has been invited by Liesbeth to come to our next meeting and talk about the tiny homes village as transitional housing in the redzone between Glade Ave and Swanns Road. Everyone welcome.

The Civil Defence steering group has made great progress and would like to distribute flyers. WAR to pay for them if everyone agrees.

Nick had a disappointing reply from Richmond Club regarding the pool project. Maybe write a summary of the project, outlining the opportunity for them to join the initiative.

Cheryl informed us about an initiative for students to tell Richmond Stories.

Climate Action Campus is involved and so is a professor from Texas.

Ross indicated that Rotary could be willing to help out with a scholarship.

Meeting closed at 8.40pm

Next meeting: 25 March ’25 at Avebury House, 7pm.

First half hour with presentation from the tiny home village.
