Adventure Avenue Wander/ Walking Festival

Earlier this month, we hosted an amazing The Walking Festival walk with Avon-Ōtākaro Network guided by tamariki, called Adventure Avenue Wander.
It was the first year running this walk, and it was a success! We had over 60 participants, young and old! Hayley Guglietta (Avon-Ōtākaro Network) has been meeting with Pareawa Banks Avenue School students for the last few years, helping them plan and implement an amazing student-led nature play space in the Red Zone, close to where their old school used to be on Banks Avenue (before relocating to their new premises where the old Shirley Boys High School used to be).
And amazing it is! This walk was a chance to show off all of their hard work, and to show locals (and non-locals!) all of the hidden gems around the Adventure Avenue area. And all of the new plantings. Everyone learned something!
Thanks to Oscar and Hollie, our guides who have worked on the project for a few years (and are now intermediate students), and to Hayley’s dedication, mostly volunteering her own time, to make this all happen!
If you haven’t been, it’s worth checking out!!!
