Thank you and Farewell to David Duffy
David Duffy has been an integral member of the Richmond Resident’s and Business Association (We Are Richmond) since 2018. You may know him from decades of teaching at Shirley Intermediate, many of those as Deputy Principal. With over 50 years living in the suburb, David’s love of Richmond inspired him to give back. Already in his 70s when he joined our committee, he did not shy away from demanding roles, serving as Secretary, and for the last two years as Chairperson. Recently he took on the enormous task of rewriting our Constitution in light of new rules under the Incorporated Societies Act (2022). It’s not an easy job, but he has been brilliant at it!
David’s work has been fundamental to so much of the RRBA’s success. Together, he and Craig Given put Richmond’s Roading Repair Programme “on the map”, successfully establishing relationships at Christchurch City Council to ensure our road repairs are seen and steady action taken. David made multiple submissions to Council on various Richmond issues, both in writing and in front of the horseshoe. A pair of reliable and capable hands, he was always there to set up and occupy the desk at every one of our Richmond events, so if you’ve been to one, you likely encountered him, asking for people’s thoughts, and sharing what we have been doing to make Richmond a better place.
At our last AGM on 23 July two notable things happened: our name was formally changed to We Are Richmond with the adoption of our new Constitution; and David officially retired. We so appreciate all of your hard work, dedication, planning, and belief in We are Richmond, David. You will be missed. Ngā mihi nui.
