Matariki 2024 — A Day and Night of Connection

Matariki in the Zone was a wonderful day and evening out for our community. A big thank you to Avon-Ōtākaro Network Richmond Community Garden and Avebury House for running this every year! We are Richmond hopped on the bandwagon to help out more this year.
So many activities were on offer during the day–from poi-making, to weaving, to making leaf impressions, to sampling homemade (alcohol-free) mulled wine, watching Kapa Haka and other performances, roasting marshmallows, viewing the community tree displays, spending time with friends, family and loved ones, firedancing, live music, and most deliciously, a hangi that fed close to 800 people!
We would like to say thank you to all of our volunteers–without you, this wouldn’t community event would not happen. We are always looking for volunteers on the day. If you’d like to volunteer at any of our events, get in touch with any one of the hosts.
Thank you to our sponsors Christchurch City Council Richmond Club, The Borough New World Stanmore Delta Community Support Trust Trade Aid New Zealand.
