Laura Fergusson Trust Comes to Richmond

Apr 13, 2022 | Educate Richmond, Healthy Richmond, RR&BA

On April 11, the Laura Fergusson Trust held an informal gathering in the grounds of the old site of Marian College. A group from “We Are Richmond” were invited to attend along with the Mayor, Liane Dalziel, city councillors and trust board members of the Laura Fergusson Trust.

The CEO of the Trust, Kathryn Jones, provided the background to the proposed move from their current site near Jellie Park to this new site in Richmond. The incidence of brain injury was described as reaching pandemic levels as new knowledge and research methods are developed beside a growing awareness of the implications of head injuries. The new centre will provide accommodation for dependent patients and a number of patients for shorter periods of treatment and rehabilitation. They will also be able to centralise their services which are currently meeting the needs of over a thousand patients a day.

This is a major financial undertaking by the Trust and “We Are Richmond” are proud to be working alongside them as they seek to establish their identity in our area. The Trust are hopeful that the new complex will be operational by 2026/27 as they move through many complex processes surrounding consents, building design, and financial support.
