Petrie Park Barbecue – Summer with your Neighbours

PETRIE PARK BARBECUE

A number of residents in the Petrie Park area, Randall Street and Stapletons Road enjoyed a barbecue and some children’s activities on Sunday, 3 November. The shady confines of Petrie Park provided much needed shade from the very hot conditions and while it made the Bouncy Castle rather too hot to bounce on for long, it didn’t diminish everybody’s appetites and they were soon enjoying the barbecued fare served up by Master Chef Murray James and his very capable kitchen staff. Thank you to the lovely ladies from Coffee Skills, Mitre 10 Ferrymead for the use of the bouncy castle and the Face painters.

The children enjoyed the challenge of the hunt for the missing letters scattered around the Park and most availed themselves of the opportunity to get a bright picture painted on their face, arms or legs. The artistry for this was provided by the staff of the Alpha Pre-School in Randall Street. The lolly scramble was a success with everybody coming away with a fair share of the spoils.

A number of people from the Council road planning team and the team of contractors who completed the road works programme were also present and it was a good opportunity to meet these people in a relaxed setting.

Perhaps the hardest job of all was the deflation of the bouncy castle and folding it up to fit back in the trailer. There were several amusing moments as the Association’s committee members decided firstly on a plan of attack and then to implement the plan. As one committee lent their full weight suddenly to one part of the castle another committee member would be bounced off. However, as the sun continued to beat down, the frivolity almost turned to grumpiness but eventually the castle was stored in its proper place.
