Petrie Park Planting Day 2025

5 years of work culminated in yesterday’s Petrie Park planting session!
Once an abandoned area (the site of a former bowling club that was demolished post-quake) now has beautiful future ahead of itself. So many volunteers, members of the community and We are Richmond committee members came and planted so many trees and plants. Imagine what this space will grow into in the next few decades!
Thank you to Hayley Guglietta for your nonstop passion on this project, to Bridget Allen Environmental Art‘s landscape plan, to Waipapa Papanui-Innes-Central Community Board for making this project a priority, to Annaleise Park Ranger from Christchurch City Council and most importantly, to all of the volunteers helping paint murals, dig soil, plant, coming along to our sessions with so many ideas.
We plan to have a Petrie Park BBQ and plant maintenance session on 22 February 2026, and will continue to work on features in the park. We will also work towards the wooden pavilion to be erected along the pathway dissecting the park.
