We are Richmond

We are Richmond (formerly The Richmond Residents and Business Association) grew out of the need for locals to have more say in what was happening to our suburb, and was formed in 2018.

The community has had to endure many disruptive events after the Red Zone changes: EQC issues; as is where is houses; poorly executed roading projects impacting our central business area; prolonged Dudley Creek remediation taking 18 months longer than expected; the MOE decisions to close schools; and the installation of multiple Housing New Zealand developments.

The collective impact of these events eventually prompted the community to stand up and state that they had had enough.

Since then, it has grown into an organisation that not only helps take action for residents, but to make Richmond a better place by positive actions, bringing community organisations together, and running local events.

Our purpose is to:

  1. To establish a progressive and collaborative relationship with National and Local Government bodies and their subsidiaries.
  2. To actively promote projects which enhance the quality of the residents’ and business communities’ lives in the Richmond area.
  3. To provide a forum for the consideration and development and advancement of ideas which meet 1 and 2 above.

We meet at 7pm on the 4th Tuesday of every month at Avebury House (9 Eveleyn Couzins Ave).

We welcome and encourage any Richmond residents, landowners, business owners and those working for Richmond organisations to come along.

Meet our Committee Members

Craig Given

Committee Member

Craig has lived in the Richmond area for nearly 20 years and became involved with the RRBA during the residents meetings over roading issues in 2018.

He enjoys being active in the community, whether it be pulling weeds, understanding roading & access issues or working with others to help promote our awesome little patch of paradise.

Murray James

Chairperson

Murray has a long established business history, owning a number of businesses in and around the construction industry.

He has a long family association with the Richmond area and loves living in the suburb. His accounting background brings a much-needed resource to our association.

Hayley Guglietta

Treasurer

Hayley is a 20 year plus Richmond Local and runs her business from Richmond, Hayley is on the board of two local organisations Avebury House and The Richmond Community Garden.

She sees Richmond as a great place to live as it is close to the city, within walking distance of the river and can only see more people wanting to live here once the proposed green zone regeneration takes place.

Rachel Crawford

Capacity Builder

For over 15 years, Rachel has been interested in creating relationships in Richmond, attending classes Avebury House classes, attending We are Richmond meetings, and cheering on the Richmond Community Garden and Riverlution, and anything and everything Richmond.

She is honoured to make connections in the community through her Capacity Builder role for the two and a half years.

If you see her in the community, come and say hi, and let her know how you can make Richmond a better place to live too.

Chris Carter

Secretary

Liesbeth emigrated from The Netherlands at the end of 1998 and has lived in Richmond ever since.

Even during the 3 year period she had to live in Woolston, after having relocated and renovated their earthquake-damaged bungalow and before their new house was built, Liesbeth was in Richmond every day and she is passionate about making her neighbourhood clean, green and friendly.

EWOUT VAN BRUCHEM

Committee Member

Ewout has lived in Richmond since emigrating from the Netherlands in 1998.

He has always loved living in this diverse and historic neighbourhood.

A lot has changed since the earthquakes. It’s great to see how the red zone (slowly) develops into a great nature and recreation area.

Ewout values community volunteer work and restoring nature.

NICK HUGHES

Committee Member

Having only lived in Richmond for 7 years, Nick is a relative newbie to the area but has quickly grown to love the sense of community enhanced through its proximity to the city and the river. He is keen to support the area’s continued growth and make it an even better place to live, work and play.
